Hacking Tip

I’m not entirely sure if the hacking thing is still going on, but today, I’m going to tell you all something I really think everyone should know to stay safe…

Do NOT post your email in public!

I know it’s convenient to exchange emails through posts and comments so people can contact you, but it’s also a really easy way for someone else to find your email and use that information to hack you. You can also get spam this way from robots, which are designed to search websites for email addresses, along with people who just need an email address to use for something. Spam might seem harmless, but all it takes is one link to give your computer a really bad virus. :/

Also, if the hacker manages to get into your email account and your email is connected to your Fantage account(s), they could end up finding your password or the names and passwords to your backup accounts, or they could even change your chat type on Fantage so you can’t chat with anyone at all…

But how do you contact someone without sharing emails publicly? Well, WordPress is one step ahead of you there! Simply hover over the “My Sites” thing on the top-left of your window, and this should come up:

Click on “Comments”, and you’ll be able to see the email addresses of everyone who’s commented on your blog! Then you can just send whoever you need to an email. And if you don’t have the email you want associated with your blog? You can change it through your account settings (hover over the circle with your profile picture on it on the top right, click Account Settings, and then scroll down and click on the gear). Personally, I would change your email so it’s not the same one you use for your Fantage account. 😉

EDIT: I think you can also post your email like emailname(at)sitename(dot)com and robots won’t pick it up, but that might still be a little unsafe if the hacker sees it.

Again, I know it’s easy and convenient to post or comment your emails publicly, but honestly, it’s not very safe, especially with a hacker running around.

I hope this helped! 🙂
